"There begins to develop a constant tension between the restricted dimensions of consumption on the capitalist basis, and a production that constantly tends to overcome these immanent barriers." -Karl Marx
The system must function in cycles of boom and bust under a capitalist free-market economy. These cycles are fueled by changes in the market, and economic crises frequently follow expansionary times. The proletariat bears the brunt of these hardships. As economic disparity increases, unemployment increases, wages stagnate, and the social fabric frequently deteriorates. The capitalist class, known as the bourgeoisie, continues to benefit from the system's volatility by either abusing labor or taking advantage of the state of the economy at the expense of the working class. Because it establishes a society in which the working class endures the severe effects of economic instability while the capitalists are protected from the suffering because they can secure their money regardless, this is incredibly unfair.
"Labor produces marvels for the rich but it produces deprivation for the worker. It produces palaces, but hovels for the worker. It produces beauty, but deformity for the worker." -Karl Marx
Labor is a commodity in a capitalist free-market economy, as supply and demand determine its price. In order to meet the capitalists' need to increase profits at any cost, the labor force is exploited, and workers are paid according to their output capacity rather than the value they add. The working class is at risk as a result of the economy's aformentioned boom-bust cycles and fluctuations in labor demand. Workers experience job instability, wage cutbacks, and layoffs during recessions and busts, whereas the bourgeoisie recruit more people during economic booms.
Due to the commodification and disposable treatment of labor, the source of wealth, this system is fundamentally unjust. Although they benefit from the labor of the working class, the bourgeoisie is shielded from the reprecutions of their actions due to their immence wealth
